Bola Ige Family Gives N24m Worth Of Scholarships To Osun Pupils

The family of a former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, the late Chief Bola Ige, has given scholarships worth N24m to two pupils from Osun State for their secondary school education at The Vale College, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Two pupils of Salvation Army Middle School, Osogbo, Samuel Olagunju and Peace Kolade, won the scholarships and they will resume at the college, which was established by Ige’s daughter, Mrs. Funso Adegbola.

Adegbola also announced that a foundation decided to offer Mariam Aderemi of Muslim Middle School, Osogbo the same scholarship. Aderemi came second in the girl category and lost the opportunity but the foundation decided to give her the opportunity to attend the same college with the two winners.

Adegbola said she was instructed by God to start the scholarship awards for pupils in public school in Oyo and Osun states. She explained that this was the second edition.

However, she said the scholarship awards would be made permanent in Osun State because of the enthusiasm shown towards it by the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

She said, “The first beneficiaries of this scholarship are already enjoying it fully, as it overs tuition, boarding, books, examinations and other needs. The monetary value of the scholarship is approximately N2m per annum per student, for six years.”

A son of the slain justice minister, Muyiwa, who is the immediate past Commissioner for Urban and Physical Planning in Osun State, said the scholarship was essentially to give the best boy and the best girl in public schools full scholarships for six years.

“Interestingly, the best boy came from Salvation Army School, Osogbo and the best girl also came from the same school. What that means is that the level of education in the state is also being elevated.”
The Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, who represented Aregbesola, lauded the family of the late Esa Oke born politician for continuing in his path.

He said their father did so much ensure that pupils from poor background had opportunities of free education when he was the first civilian governor of the old Oyo State.
