The Ghana National Association of Graduate Teachers, on Thursday, called on the Head of the West African Examination Council in Ghana to resign to allow authority to investigate without interference. The NAGRAT is also calling for the dissolution of the Board of Directors for WAEC.
Addressing a press conference in Accra, the National Vice President of the Association, Mr. Angel Kabonu, explained that it was imperative that Rev. Samuel Ollenu steps aside to ensure that investigations were done independently.
“The results our students churn out is a reflection of our competence or otherwise,” he said, emphasising on the fact that teachers put in their best to prepare students for exams, therefore excellent performance should not be misconstrued to be with assistance of leaked papers.
Mr. Kabonu said, “when papers leak and the questions are on the internet, whatsApp and pupils could email them, then we will have to ask ourselves the question, ‘where is it coming from?’, definitely it is coming from WAEC.”
He then argued that students should not suffer for the errors and incompetence of the examination body, calling for the establishment of an alternative body to bring about competition to make WAEC sit up.
