Group seeks more opportunities for youths

A group, Strategy for Mentoring Initiative and Leadership, has called on the Federal Government as well as other relevant organisations to create more opportunities and programmes for youths.

The SMILE President, Mrs. Bimpe Bamgbose-Martins, made the appeal in Lagos, noting that such opportunities would enable youths to manifest their talents and potential fully.

She spoke during the graduation of 28 youths who received the organisation’s 12 months tutorial on leadership and mentoring programmes.

According to Bamgbose-Martins, exposing youths to a variety of opportunities will equip them to contribute positively in nation building.

The SMILE president, who spoke on ‘Youth as agents of National Transformation’, also urged youngsters to engage in activities that would lift the country to loftier heights.

She said, “The theme for today’s event is apt and timely as it underscores the crucial role youths can play in the development of any nation, particularly at this time when our country is set for a new era that is bound to throw up challenges and opportunities.

“These opportunities will enable youths to make significant contributions that will shape the future of our nation. I therefore enjoin our pupils, alumni and the youth of this nation to ensure that they play an active part in realising the Nigeria of our dreams.”

Besides training youths, Bamgbose-Martins noted that the organisation provided educational support and internship training for school leavers.

The group, she also said, provided ICT training for youths as well as offered outreach programmes to inspire pupils and students in public schools in the country.
