The
Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, has
urged school administrators to help the state government generate
credible education data.
She stated this on Wednesday at the beginning of the 2014/2015 Annual School Census.
Noting that the census is imperative for
multi-sectoral planning, Oladunjoye said the exercise would only succeed
if stakeholders supported the initiative.
She urged the education managers to be available to attend to the enumerators and make all records available to them.
According to her, all schools need to
provide correct information as well as statutory and administrative
records to facilitate the free flow of the exercise.
The commissioner noted that as drivers of
the ASC, they should cooperate with the officials to produce credible
data that would serve the need of the sector.
“I therefore wish to urge all
stakeholders, especially our principals and head teachers, who are the
drivers of the initiative to produce credible and timely data for the
education sector.
She added, “Hitherto, inconsistencies of
data, care-free attitude to data collection and non-remittance of timely
returns had characterised the attitudes of the stakeholders. I call on
you all to turn a new leaf by embracing this efficient data generation
exercise.
