About 50,000 junior and senior secondary school students in Nigeria sat for the first stage examination of the 2015 Cowbell National Secondary School Mathematics Competition (NASSMAC) last Saturday in 184 examination centres.
Category Manager of Promasidor Nigeria Limited (sponsor of the competition), Mr. Abiodun Ayodeji who made this disclosure, said that the urge to develop the students’ interest in mathematics is the reason for establishing the competition.
He expressed concerns about the mass failure recorded by students in the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) organised public examinations in the country.
Ayodeji added that he was impressed by the competition’s ability to spur the interest of secondary school students in mathematics in Nigeria as Promasidor records yearly increase in the number of participants in the competition.
The manager stated that Cowbell had included a radio programme in 15 stations around the country in order to add value to the competition.
