The
Chairman of the Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board, Mallam Nuhu
Ahmed, says the state government owes teachers in the state about
N1.6bn salary arrears.
He particularly stated that teachers in
Okene, Omala, Ofu, Ajaokuta and Olamaboro local government areas had yet
to receive their November 2014 salaries while others in all the 21
council areas in the state had yet to get their December salaries.
Ahmed, who made this known in an
interview with journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday, however, said the
state government was working hard to offset arrears.
The board, the SUBEB chief said, was working with finance experts to ensure that all teachers received their salaries promptly.
He appealed to the teachers to show more
understanding as, according to him, the teachers may not receive their
full salaries because of the dwindling allocation from the federation
account.
Ahmed added, “I will not want a situation
where some teachers will be paid while others are not paid. We are
working to ensure that all teachers are paid, even if it means that they
will not collect full pay.”
