This year’s Cowbell National Secondary Schools Mathematics Competition has begun with the organisers, Promasidor Nigeria Limited, introducing a quiz segment into the contest.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr. Olivier Thiry, stated this in Lagos at a briefing to announce the commencement of the competition.

According to him, the company is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the competition by adding a new twist to the conduct of the examinations.

He added, “We will now have a ‘Stage 2 Reloaded, which includes a quiz segment and wonderful new prizes for the winning pupils and their teachers. Also, I am happy to announce that this 15th edition will see substantial increase in the prize package.”
The firm’s commitment to the competition over the years, he said, had seen the initiative grow from a small school competition in Lagos in 1998 to a national competition with great reputation in the industry.

The Head of Marketing, Mr. Festus Tettey, also said the competition was open to pupils aged between 10 and 18 in Junior Secondary School 3 and Senior Secondary 2 in government-approved schools in the country.

Tettey announced that the first stage examination would hold on Saturday, March 14 in 189 centres in 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Assuring that ministry of education and the company’s officials would supervise the conduct of the examinations”, he promised that the first stage examination result would be ready by May 20.
For the modified second stage contest, Tettey said the exercise would involve 54 candidates from each category.

He noted that while 20 of the candidates would emerge on national merit, the remaining 34 pupils would emerge from the 33 states and Abuja.
He added, however, that the exercise would produce at least one representative from each state.
On the prizes, Tettey said the overall winner would receive N750, 000, while the first and second runners-up would get N500, 000 and N250, 000, respectively.
