Students of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, Ogun State, have called on Nigerians to shun violence while discharging their civic duties.
They made the call during a sensitisation rally held at their host community in Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.

Clad in colourful T-shirts emblazoned with the university’s name, the students, amid singing and drumming also visited Ilishan, Iperu, Ogere, Ikenne and Irolu all in the council area.
At the various towns, they stopped at markets, palaces of traditional rulers and motor parks where they educated residents on the need for peaceful elections.
The students, who had their lecturers and other workers in their midst, also distributed handbills with the message, “Say No to Violence, Your Vote is your voice” expressed in both the English and Yoruba languages.

The President, Public Administration Students Association, Miss Taiwo Oguntuyo, on one of the occasions, said it was a way of giving back to the society based on their course of study.

Oguntuyo added that the move was to bring voter education to the grass roots in the native language.
The Head of Department, Political Science and Public Administration, Dr. Olajumoke Yacob-Haliso, also noted that initiative was to educate the grass roots on the need to shun violence.
