The Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) has appointed a
University of Lagos (UNILAG) lecturer, Professor Elijah Adebowale
Ayolabi, as its 2015 Honorary Lecturer to the Middle-East and Africa.
Prof. Ayolabi of the Department of Physics is the first African to be accorded such recognition by the international umbrella body for all Geophysicists.
The appointment is an acknowledgement of the UNILAG scholar as an accomplished researcher and academic in the field of Geophysics.
The Honorary Lecturer Programme which focuses on transfer of knowledge within a region or theme is aligned with six (6) geographic regions and one global thematic tour.
The overall goals of the Programme are to recognize an individual’s expertise and contributions to advancing the science and technology of Geophysics.
The appointee is to also disseminate knowledge via presentations in the region or theme and foster a sense of community among Geophysicists by providing opportunities for local meetings and exchange of ideas.
Another objective of the programme is to encourage students by providing the opportunity to discuss scientific and career issues with a leading expert.
In his reaction, the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG congratulated Prof. Ayolabi and wished his a successful outing.
