Crisis brews at UMYU as VC candidate sues state govt

Tension is rising at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina, as one of the candidates in the screening exercise for the position of vice chancellor, Professor Mansur Malumfashi, has sued the state government for irregularities.

The lecturer sued the state governor and three others in the state High Court seeking the declaration of the appointment of Prof Idris Isa Funtua as UMYU VC unlawful.

In a suit no: KTH/21/2015, the petitioner is seeking a declaration that the governor had no power to appoint vice chancellor, but that such powers rest on the governing council.

Joined in the suit are the governor of Katsina State, the Attorney General of the state, the governing council of the university and Professor Idris Isah Funtua.
