Full Tuition Ruta Sechaba Scholarship for Black South Africans in South Africa, 2019

The Ruta Sechaba Foundation is awarding full (100%) tuition scholarship for Black South Africans. All scholarships are awarded on an annual basis and all awarded scholarships are reviewed annually.
The purpose of the Ruta Sechaba Foundation is to provide, inter alia, monitored financial support for educational purposes to Black South Africans (as defined in the BEE Act and Codes of Good Practice).
The Ruta Sechaba Foundation was established in 2016 to provide scholarships, bursaries and awards to qualifying learners at Curro or Curro-managed schools. The PSG Group BEE Education Trust is the initial donor to the Foundation. The PSG Group BEE Education Trust was founded by the PSG Group in 2006. The aim of the Trust is to provide monitored financial support for educational purposes to Black South African citizens. The PSG Group BEE Education Trust has identified the Ruta Sechaba Foundation, and Curro as its key partner in education, to assist in achieving this objective.

Scholarship Description: 

  • Applications Deadline: August 3, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarship is available for new learners from Grades 8 to 11 and Existing learners from Grades 8 to 12.
  • Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded to learn any of the subjects offered.
  • Scholarship Award: The scholarship will include all school fees, the purchase of a tablet, registration fees, connectivity fees, stationery costs as provided by the school and all academic tours organised by the school. The scholarship will not cover hostel fees, uniform costs, daily transport to and from school, extramural activities, sports costs and other sundry amounts due by the parent/guardian from time to time.
  • Nationality: Available to South Africans only.

Eligibility for the Scholarship: 

Eligible Countries: This scholarship is available for Black South Africans.
Entrance Requirements: Only learners who meet the following criteria will be considered:
  1. Black learners only (Black means African, Colored and Indian as defined by the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act, ‘BBBEE Act’);
  2. Black learners (as defined by the BBBEE Act) who are South African citizens only;
  3. New learners from Grades 8 to 11;
  4. Existing learners from Grades 8 to 12;
  5. Learners achieving academic excellence measured as:
  • Attaining an overall aggregate of 60% or above in the latest academic report;
  • Attaining at least 60% in Mathematics and English in the latest academic report (hereinafter referred to as ‘Minimum Academic Standards‘).
  1. Scholarships awarded will be for the learners remaining school career, subject to them maintaining the averages on which the initial reward was calculated. In evaluating the learner’s progress, the Executive Head and Regional Head will have regard for the expected decline in academic averages as the learner progresses to higher grades. If a learner fails to meet minimum standards, the learner may be obliged to attend corrective interventions, designed by the school, to support the learner. Failure to attend the corrective interventions and show progress over a period of time may result in the scholarship being reduced or terminated accordingly. Furthermore, the Minimum Financial Need Requirement must continue to be met.

How to Apply: All applicants are required to complete an application form and submit all the required information in order to be considered eligible to receive a scholarship. Applications open on 25 June 2018 and close at 17:00 on 3 August 2018. Please submit the completed application forms to capitecbank-at-curro.co.za.

  • Copy of learner’s latest progress report
  • Copy of parents’/legal guardian’s ID
  • Proof of household income
