OSUSTECH Students Protests Poor Learning Condition, Locks School Gate

Students of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH), on Wednesday resumed their protest against the state government over alleged poor working and learning conditions in the institution. The protesters locked the main gate of the institution, thereby preventing workers from entering the institution.

The aggrieved protesters, numbering over 700 had suspended their action penultimate week with 14 days ultimatum for government to respond to the demands. Their action caused gridlock along Okitipupa/Igbokoda road, obstructing human and vehicular movement.
A 200 level student, Omotola Benson hinged their grievances on exorbitant school fees, payment of ICT fees without the facilities, neglect of the University by the government and non-payment of the staff salaries.
Benson explained that indigenous students of the University pay N125,000 as schools fees, while non-indigenes pay N175,000.
“Is this not a rape on our fundamental human right?”, she queried.
The students’ body urged the government to focus more on the institution by responding to their demands.
The State Commissioner for Education, Mr. Jide Adejuyigbe could not be reached for comments.
