There are strong indications that both administrative and academic
activities may resume at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife,
this week, as President Muhammadu Buhari has instructed the university’s
Registrar, Mr. David Awoyemi, to announce the reopening of the
institution as soon as possible.
This is even as the President has asked the university’s members of the Senate to recommend one of them, who is capable of running the institution as a Vice-Chancellor in acting capacity, for Federal Government’s approval.
In a letter addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Julius Okojie, through the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the President directed the Senate not to consider any of the candidates who earlier contested for the position.
