Today's News Headlines [4th April, 2016]

1. Official of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC) have been asked to begin a 24-hour surveillance of petrol stations across the country.
According to the Commandant General of of the corps, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, the aim is to ensure that all sharp practices regarding distribution, supply and selling of fuel are curtailed.


2. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has condemned the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose over its failure to pay workers’ salary arrears. The party said the governor’s preference for building airport, new market and fly-over bridge when workers were being owed contradicted his campaign promise of stomach infrastructure before physical infrastructure. The statement was issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun.

3. The Army has announced yet another feat against Boko Haram insurgents in the north east. According to Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, the Troops of 22 Brigade Garrison, Army Headquarters Strike Group (AHQ SG), alongside some Civilian JTF in Boboshe, Garna, Kyare, Kadawu, Gineba and Ajiri, Sunday arrested 6 Boko Haram terrorists and recovered Improvised Explosive (IED) making devices from them.

4. The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has annonced four special committees to organise the party’s national convention and rebuild it. This is according to a statement signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and issued to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. The four committees are National Convention, Reconciliation, Zoning and Finance.

5. Former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba has now returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Osoba was received on Sunday in Lagos by top APC chieftains in the South-West. At the event were former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Ogun State, Bisi Akande, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Oluranti Adebule, and others.

6. Report says some gunmen have killed two sons of a cleric in Calabar, Cross River State. Those killed were the sons of the presiding pastor of the Independent Baptist Church, Rev. Nicholas Wayih. The sons were identified as Archibong and Ekpenyong.

7. Report has it that former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Deipreye Solomon Alamieyeseigha will on Saturday, April 9 be laid to rest. Alamieyeseigha will be buried in his Amassoma country home, Bayelsa State.

8. In sports, former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has been nominated alongside 10 other players, for the Marc-Vivien Foe prize for Africans in the French Ligue 1. Enyeama is. Reportedly the only goalkeeper that made the list, alongside two defenders, five midfielders and three strikers.

9. The Nigerian Army has reportedly retired Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh, over his alleged role in the last controversial governorship election in Ekiti State in 2014. Minister of Defence, Dan Ali, made this disclosure in Washington, DC.

10. Reports have emerged that the ongoing fuel scarcity may not end on Thursday this week as earlier pledged by Kachikwu, the Minister of State for Petroleum. According to the report, Nigerians may have to endure the current situation till May. This, according to the report is the position of some marketers who believe that the situation can only get better after this month.
