A LECTURER of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro Mr. Chike Ggemudu was weekend, kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
Ggemudu, who is of the Directorate of General Studies in the institution, was abducted in the early hours of Friday at his residence along NDC road, in the Ozoro community and was whisked away to an unknown destination.
A source in the polytechnic who spoke on condition of anonymity, told journalists that contact had not been established with the kidnappers.
Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the incident and said efforts were being made to secure his release.
Reacting to the incident, Chairman of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Comrade Thomas Ojuye described Ggemudu’s kidnap as painful, disclosing that the union had concluded plans to undergo a fasting and praying session for his release.
“This is the second time a lecturer of this polytechnic has been kidnapped,” he said, reiterating that “a situation where lectures are kidnapped for ransom is condemnable.”
