The Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has called on stakeholders in the education sector to join hands together with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in fighting examination malpractices in Nigeria.
Shekarau, who made the appeal recently in Lagos, said that the examination body could not be able to do so all alone.
The minister who spoke through the Permanent Secretary of the education ministry, Dr MacJohn Nwaobiala, pointed out that based on the importance of WAEC’s certificates to secure admission into tertiary institutions, employment or other valuable positions, desperate candidates go on the path of dubious way to pass its exams.
He praised the council for standing against malpractice in its exams, saying the effort is in agreement with the anti-corruption policy of President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration.
