The Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano (BUK),
during its meeting held on Thursday, 26th March, 2015, approved the
appointment of Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas as the new Deputy Vice
Chancellor, Academics.
Until his new appointment, Prof. Sagir Abbas was the Director, Directorate of Research, Innovation and Partnerships (DRIP).
Before this confirmation, the University Senate had in its 327th meeting elected Prof. Sagir Abbas as DVC Academics to succeed Professor Hafiz Abubakar, who is contesting for Deputy Governorship seat in Kano State.
Prof. Abbas was born on 22nd April, 1962 at ‘Yan Katifa, K/Madabo, Kano city.
He started his BUK career as Assistant Lecturer in 1991. From 1991-2010 he held some positions as follows: Sub-Dean, Faculty of Education 1995 – 1997; Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education 1995 –1998.
He was the acting Dean, Faculty of Education 1998-1999; Director, Development Office 2004-2007 and Acting Head, Department of Education 2006. Before joining the services of BUK, he was a lecturer with the then Kano College of Education, now Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, in the Department of Mathematics.
The new appointment is for a period of 18 months.
