JAMB Catchment Areas And ELPS For 2016/2017 Admission

This system is a way of recognizing natives of a locality where a school resides. This is one of the reasons why all Nigeria states have at least a University so as to main equality in access to education.

Nevertheless; excellence is not sacrifice on the basis of where you come from, catchment sometimes helps and serves as tie-breaker.

Students who have analyzed their strengths knowing well they cannot compete strongly with others are advised to seek admission in Schools where their states of origin is a catchment.

UNIBEN Set To Refund Money Paid By Post-UTME 2016 Candidates

Indication shows that University of Benin in line with the directive of the Minster of Education has commenced the process of refunding post-UTME 2016 candidates the money paid during registration.

The institution has directed that candidates who have register for the exercise proceed to the application portal to provide their bank details.

The message on the university's application portal reads, "All candidates that successfully paid for the screening exercise are requested to go back to their application records and enter their bank details... Thank you"

1- The meeting was held at:
B.O Ukeje Auditorium, Nation Commission for colleges of Education, Central Business District Abuja.... on Tuesday 28th for Federal institutions, Wed 29th for state institutions and Thursday 30th June 2016 for Private institutions....
The meeting was for stakeholders and educational bodies to work out the modalities of screening candidates duly recommended for admission.

Due to the National importance of the meeting, it was chaired by the permanent secretary to the ministry of Education, this is to ensure that the honorable minister's directives on the scrapping of postume and the modalities is STRICTLY ADHERED TO.

2- ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR ALL INSTITUTIONS-
A- CONVENTIONAL INSTITUTIONS
Universities and colleges of Education
To Admit 60% Science and 40% Arts
.
B- SPECIALIZED INSTITUTIONS
Varsities of technology, Agriculture etc
To admit 100% sciences ( but 80% sciences and 20% others..... For state varsity and colleges of Education)

C- Polytechnic and colleges of Technology
To admit 70% Sciences and 30% Arts
.
3- UTME/DIRECT ENTRY ratio
To Admit 90% UTME
". ". 10% DE
Where the 10% for DE is not utilized, UTME candidates should be used in completing the quota
.
4- ISSUES TO NOTE BY ALL Institutions....
The list of candidates that has crossed the minimum cutoff of Jamb but were not admitted into a particular institution should be forwarded back to jamb, as this candidates will be redistributed to other institutions who need them for consideration.....most preferably their 2nd choice institution....
(This means that those who scored the general cutoff say 180 or 200 and above but couldn't reach the departmental cutoff and were not admitted will be forward to other institution for admission consideration, just like eligibility stuff last year)

5- STUDY HERE PROPERLY,
In the Meeting, Jamb did some evaluations on processes some universities has been following in the former years as a case study, they used this two varsities which don't normally write pume as a case study but uses screening method: these are:
.
Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University and its affiliates 2015/2016 mode of admission, Jamb made remarked on the life span of certificates (O-level) which the school indicated as 5yrs only for you to be admitted, and Jamb also made remarks on how much this varsity collects from aspirants
.
Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida's who use jamb grading systems like 180- 185 as 20 points, 186-190 as 21 points and So on...
Jamb faulted and made remarks on
1- why they should screen candidates before recommendation and presentation to jamb
2- The weighted course requirements and grades put some students to disadvantage
3- fees charged for screening, HOW MUCH??

In the meeting, Jamb made some sampled printouts of some federal universities that do conduct written exams.... Using Futo, unilorin, uniabuja, and Unilag as a case study
.
Using FUTO Mechanical Engineering department as an example, they have the capacity to admit a total number of 193 for that department...
they suppose to admit 87 on merit, 68 for catchments( they have 5 catchments states, so 68 divided by 5 = 13.5, so they suppose to admit 14 for each catchment states), 39 for EDLS (they have 23 EDLS so 39/23 = 1.6~ 2 for each EDLS)....
But they summary/outcome jamb gave for futo was: 92:70:14 for merit: catchment: ELDS

Unilorin admission for law which has a capacity of 89 was also used and the outcome was that they admitted a total of 70 instead of 89 using merit, catchments and ElDS....
.
Uniabuja with a capacity of 444 for Economics department admitted just 370
.
Unilag with a capacity of 280 for law department had a summary/outcome of 270 instead of 280...
.
For private institution, they used about 5 institutions as case study, where
Covenant varsity, with 111 capacity for Engineering end up admitting just 45 (I guess due to lack of candidates), Salem varsity Lokoja which have a capacity to admit 20 for computer Engineering ended up admitting just 8 (due to lack of candidates) and so on for the remaining 3 varsities used as sample....
.
For State institutions: Imsu, Lautech, Kaduna. State varsity and 2 others were used, the outcome looked partly like federal uni outcome for those state varsity like imsu who have candidates every year and some outcomes looked like that of private varsity for some state universities that lacks candidates every year...

6- After the whole evaluation, JAMB came up with this As the MODALITIES TO BE TAKEN THIS YEAR By All institutions:

This new method uses a point system that is easy to understand, the whole process is divided into main points as follows;
1) Before a candidate can seat be considered for screening, he/she must have been given provisional admission by Jamb. The Jamb admission checker portal is going to be opened soon for this process, so praying is all you can do now.
2) THE POINT SYSTEM:
This is the most critical part of the process. Jamb's provisional admission no longer makes much sense this year, your points tally will decide your faith. The points are evenly spread out between your O'level and Jamb results to provide a level playing field for all.
In the first case, any candidate who submits only one result which contains his/her relevant subjects already has 10points, the exam could be NECO, WAEC, GCE etc, but any candidate who has 2 sittings only gets 3 points. So this means that aspirants with only one result are at an advantage but only just.
The next point grades fall into the O'level grades. Each grades has it's equivalent point, A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks, so the better your grades the better your chances.
The next point is the UTME scores. Each score range has its equivalent point which can be summarized thus, 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points. Each categories contains 5 Jamb results per point added, for example a candidate with 180-185 gets 20points, a candidate with 186-190 gets 21 points etc.
Points system for DE will be released soon.
3) It then comes down to the fact that fees will still be charged for screening, it depends on the school as well.
4) Catchment and ELDS will still be used!

No Admission For Awaiting Result Candidates This Year

No fewer than one million candidates who applied for admissions into the universities with awaiting results may be denied admissions as many of the institutions have fixed dates to commence screening of prospective applicants for the 2016/2017 academic session.

Saturday Sun investigations revealed that over one million candidates currently in secondary schools that wrote the 2017 Universities Matriculation Tertiary Examination (UTME) did so as awaiting result candidates, which has been the practice.

In the May/June2017 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), 1,552,772 million candidates registered for the school exam while over 1,200,000 million candidates also registered for the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO)

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is currently marking the answer scripts of candidates that wrote the May/June 2017 WASSCE and would release the results in August while the SSCE conducted by NECO is on going nationwide and would be concluded July ending.

Some of the universities have placed adverts inviting prospective candidates for the screening exercise for the 2016/2017 academic session starting this month even as WAEC is yet to release the May/June 2017 WASSCE result, while other candidates are currently writing the SSCE (NECO), which would be released either in September or October.

In some of the advertisements for the screening text, the universities stated that applicants for admissions are to come with original UTME result, WAEC or NECO result, birth certificates, scratch card, local government area and state of origin certificates, testimonial of schools attended, police and medical reports.

The implication is that many of the prospective candidates seeking admission with awaiting results may miss the opportunity unless the Federal Government wades into the issue. The fear of parents and schools is that some of the institutions would have concluded the screening exercise before WAEC and NECO release the results.

The Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) in its advert inviting applicants’ admission it reads: “Only candidates who have five credits at one or two sittings (including English Language and Mathematics) are eligible to apply. Candidates awaiting results may, however, be considered for the 2016/2017 admissions exercise.’’

UNIUYO Suspends 2016/2017 Post-UTME Screening Exercise

Candidates for the UNIUYO 2016/2017 Post-UTME exercise are hereby informed about the suspension of the screening exercise and should not fall victims to any individual claiming otherwise as fraudsters are always on prowling.

Perspective students should regular visit the university website at www.uniuyo.edu.ng for information pertaining the Post-UTME exercise new schedule which is expected to come out soon, as the School authorities are working on it.

The Police Secondary School (PSS) in Minna graduated 458 students for the 2015/2016 session to mark its 19th batch of graduating students of the college.

The ceremony featured giving of special awards/prizes to the best student in each of the 27 subjects and commissioning of a block of hostel named after the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Kpotu Idris.

The Inspector General of Police who was represented by the Niger State Police Commissioner, Mr Abubakar Marafa urged the graduating students to put into practice what they learned while preparing for future endeavors and to be good ambassadors of the famous college.

He advised them to shun cultism, drug abuse and other negative tendencies before and after getting admission into higher institution of learning.

The Commandant of the college, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Umar Hadejia said that over 90% of the 458 graduating students recorded an average of credit pass in all subjects in the last WAEC/ NECO examinations conducted.

CSP Hadejia further stated that the school also recorded at least 220 points with the highest of 298 points in the last Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

He said that staff promotion and motivation were carried out in line with the Civil Service rules and regulations hence about 3,341 teachers had benefited from 2013 to date as their students can compete favorably with best students in Nigeria.
The commandant, who applauded the Inspector General and Niger Commissioner of Police as well the school’s Parents Teachers Association (PTA) for all their efforts to the growth and development of the college charged graduating students to be good ambassadors of the school in the areas of self discipline, good moral conduct as they go into the wider society.
The PTA Chairman, Mr Zubairu Idris also charged Nigerians and the government to assist the PSS Minna in the expansion of its infrastructural development as its presently over stretched.

JAMB Proposed Model For Screening Of Recommended Candidates

The Joint Admission And Matriculation Board held a meeting at the B.O Ukeje Auditorium, Nation Commission for colleges of Education, Central Business District Abuja on Tuesday 28th, 29th and 30th to map out admission screening modalities for Colleges of education, polytechnics and Universities.

The meeting was chaired by the permanent secretary ministry of education, Dr. Shade Yemi-Esan.

After evaluating the screening models of some schools in previous years and other factors surrounding the admission processes in tertiary institution in the country, JAMB released a proposed model for the screening of recommended candidates.

PROPOSED JAMB MODEL FOR SCREENING OF RECOMMENDED CANDIDATES

1. Screening of candidates shall be for ONLY candidates recommended for admissions.

2. No written examination to be conducted.

3. Verification of Course Requirements (O’ levels or A’ levels).

4. Verification of valid JAMB results by checking:
i. Online Result Slip
ii. Printout
iii. Photo Album
v. Checklist
vi. Biometrics

5. Institutions are free to source from other Course(s) to
compensate for SHORTFALL in any of the criteria.

The list of candidates that have scored above the minimum cut-off mark, and are NOT admitted may be forwarded to other institutions that need them for consideration. Especially their Second (2nd) Choice institutions of preferences.

JAMB Direct Entry Sales Of Form Deadline Extended

This is to inform the public that the deadline for JAMB Direct Entry sales of form has been extended.

The new deadline is now July 29th, 2016.

FUNAAB Post-UTME Form Is Out

Funaab post UTME form application detail is now available. All applicants seeking undergraduate admission into 100, 200 and 300 Levels in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) are hereby invited to apply online for the 2016/2017 Pre-Admission Screening Exercise.

Applications must be from suitably qualified candidates whose have chosen the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) as the Most Preferred Institution on the prescribed form obtainable for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Applicants must also possess minimum entry requirements of five (5) O’ Level Credits in relevant subjects at one or two sittings in SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB and fill in the same results online. Admission into Agriculture, Engineering, Bio-sciences, Physical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Courses
In addition to conditions stated in the Eligibility for Pre-Admission Screening Exercise, candidates are expected to possess five (5) SSC Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology at not more than two (2) sittings.
A Pass in Physics at O-Level is acceptable ONLY for courses in Agricultural Programmes.
A Pass in Biology with Credit in Agricultural Sciences is acceptable ONLY for courses in Agricultural Programmes. The University does not accept Agricultural Science in lieu of Biology.
Candidates applying for Water Resources Management should also possess a Credit in Geography.
Admission into Management Sciences Courses;
Candidates are expected to possess Credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other Social Sciences subjects from Geography, Financial Accounts, Government, Business Studies and Commerce at not more than two (2) sittings.
Direct Entry Pre-Admission Screening Exercise
Direct Entry candidates, with minimum of Upper-Credit and its equivalent, who have also applied to JAMB for admission into the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) are invited to register online.
Admission Into 200 Level Agriculture, Engineering, Bio-sciences, Physical Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Courses;
In addition to the minimum UTME requirement specified at O'Level, candidates seeking admission by Direct Entry are expected to possess a minimum of UPPER CREDIT at ND or HND and CREDIT at NCE for admissions into related areas from a recognized institution. At least two A-Level/IJMB/JUPEB passes in the following: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Biology/Zoology/Botany are acceptable for admission into 200 Level.
FUNAAB DOES NOT ACCEPT LOWER CREDIT FOR DIRECT ENTRY ADMISSION.
Candidates should ensure that their Academic Transcripts are forwarded to the Registrar, FUNAAB not later than Monday, 1st August, 2016.

Application Procedure:

Eligible candidates are to access the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta FUNAAB Admission Portal; http://admission.unaab.edu.ng/ and click on "Apply for Admission" and enter their JAMB UTME or JAMB Direct Entry Registration Numbers to generate and print out their Application Invoice which states their Reference Number and other information on payment of a non-refundable fee of Two Thousand and Five Hundred Naira (N2,500.00) only, including REMITA fees.
Candidates should proceed to any Bank accepting REMITA payment (nationwide) or Online using debit card or via Internet Banking and make payment of the prescribed fee using the REMITA Reference Number.
After payment, candidates are to proceed to FUNAAB Admission Portal and complete the e-application form as appropriate.
Candidates are required to correctly input their Bio-data, O’Level results, OND/HND/NCE/A-Level/IJMB/JUPEB results (where applicable) and upload a recent coloured passport photograph (not more than 6 months old).
On uploading of all required details, candidates are expected to first preview and confirm the entries before clicking on Submit on the acknowledgement page.
Candidates should thereafter print out the Application Form displaying their passport photograph.

No complaint of wrong Bio-Data, O'Level results, OND/HND/NCE/A-Level/IJMB/JUPEB results or blank picture would be entertained.

The Pre-Admission Screening Exercise is interactive and holds from Monday, 25th July, 2016 to Wednesday, 27th July, 2016. Candidates are to check the FUNAAB Admission Portal from Wednesday 20th July, 2016 to check their status. Shortlisted candidates should print and note their screening venues and dates.

Note; Applications for refund on losing admissions offer will not be entertained. It is the responsibility of candidates to ensure they meet the minimum admission requirements before making payment for acceptance of admission offer.

Ridiculous Things Job Applicants Have Done To Impress Their Interviewer

In the present day global workforce where limited job vacancies are available for an abnormally large number of applicants, every one of them wants to stand out and impress the recruiter(s).
By so doing, many have gone ahead to do ridiculous stunts all in the name of impressing the interviewer(s).
While some of these "extraordinary folks" got the jobs, the were only able to get noticed by the recruiter(s). Their stunts were not sufficient to earn them the jobs.
Below are some examples of these ridiculous impressions.

1. A candidate answered a call during the interview stating that another company was calling to discuss a job offer.

2. A candidate climbed on a roof the employer was repairing and asked for a job.

3. Candidate performed a musical number on the guitar about why he was the best candidate.

11-Year-old Wins 16th Spelling Bee Competition

ELEVEN year old, Philip Daniel of Darocha Primary School, Agege, has emerged winner of the 16th Lagos State Spelling Bee Competition, primary category, beating Titus Friday of Anglican Primary School, Ajegunle and Nafisat Raji of Ahmadiyah Primary School, Yaba to second and third positions respectively.

The competition, which was keenly contested by 57 participants from public primary schools across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local Government Education Authorities, LGEAs, produced five best winners.

The winner, Daniel, was presented with N150,000.00 cash prize and Trophy, the second and third positions collected N100,000.00 and N75,000.00 cash prizes and trophies, while the other two winners for the fourth and fifth positions were given consolation prizes each.

The Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Dr. Ganiyu Shopeyin, in his address, congratulated the winners and all the participants for displaying brilliance and urged them not to rest on their oars.

He also commended the teachers who have groomed the pupils for the competition for a job well done, just as he enjoined the pupils to strive more on their studies for academic excellence. Speaking earlier, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, reiterated that the competition is another step taken by the State Government to demonstrate its resolve to further develop Education in Lagos. He added that the competition has been designed to promote the ideals of original thinking and confidence in pupils and students in our educational system.

The Federal Government has intervened in the ongoing crisis plaguing the Obafemi Awolowo University over the alleged imposition of new Vice Chancellor.

Confirming the dissolution of the University’s governing council headed by Prof. Ndoma Egba by the Federal Government, the Institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Biodun Olanrewaju yesterday said: “I also saw the advertorial announcing the dissolution.”

Recall that the National Television Authority, NTA had on Thursday announced the Federal Government’s resolve on the issue as the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ayobami Salami had been odered to vacate office.

The Chairman of the Non Academic Staff Union, NASU in the university, Mr. Wole Odewumi while speaking with Punch correspondents said the Federal Government will appoint an acting VC to oversee the affairs of the school pending the constitution of a new governing council.

He said, “We are very happy today. We have been jubilating since we heard the announcement.
“Yes, it is true that the Federal Government has dissolved the governing council.

“We are still monitoring activities at the university’s senate building; we don’t want anything to be stolen from the place.”

Kwarapoly Nabs Cybercafe Owner For Helping Students Forge Certificates

It was the end of the road for Mohammed Opeyemi, who owned an internet cafe on the premises of Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Opeyemi, who was arrested by the security personnel of the institution, had for a long time been allegedly forging fees clearance documents for the graduating students of the school.

Narrating how the culprit was apprehended on Wednesday, the Rector of Kwarapoly, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu, said the suspect was caught with a stamp and signature specimen of the approving officer of the audit department of the institution.

Elelu, who is also the Chairman, Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria, described the action of the suspect as an economic sabotage and a dent to the image of the poly.

According to him, Opeyemi was later handed over to the police for interrogation and possible prosecution. He added that after investigation, any student or staff that is an accomplice of the culprit would be punished.

Elelu said, “We caught him through our intelligent network. We caught him with some of the stamps and documents he had forged. He had stamps of the audit department and even the signature of the man in audit that normally signs the document.

“That audit paper is always presented before certificates are signed. The procedure is that at the end of payment by graduating students, there is verification, after which the audit department will certify. It is the paper from audit that is attached to the application sent to Exams and Records and then the calligrapher will now write the certificate and send it to the Registrar; then it will come to me as the final person that will sign.

“The document and signature of the person who certifies that a particular student has paid at the audit department are what Opeyemi used to forge. He has the stamp and the signature and we caught him. We have handed him over to the police. They are investigating.”

Elelu said Opeyemi’s cafe had been shut down and that investigations were on to arrest his accomplices.

“The certificates that have been signed or to be signed by him have been stopped,” he added.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ajayi Jeffrey, said the police was committed to arresting fraudsters, including those who engage in forgery.

He added that after investigations, the police would ensure that the culprit was prosecuted. He urged people to desist from any criminal indulgence, adding that the law would catch up with people of questionable character in the state.
